Congratulations to the Beaufort County School's Summer Nutrition program for receiving the US Department of Agriculture's Turnip the Beet Award. The district received the Silver Turnip the Beet Award for going above and beyond to serve nutritious and appealing summer meals that feature locally grown ingredients, solicit and incorporate student input into menus, and encourage healthy eating. Beaufort County Schools was one of 98 summer meal sponsors acknowledged for their excellent program!
The Turnip the Beet Award recognizes outstanding summer meal program sponsors across the nation who work hard to offer high-quality meals to children that are appetizing, appealing, and nutritious during the summer months. Summer meals are critical in the lives of millions of the nation's youth, whose risk for food insecurity increases during the summer months when they no longer have access to the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and the School Breakfast Program.
