Training Initiatives

The Farm to School Coalition of NC's partners hosts a variety of training initiatives that strengthen stakeholders' knowledge about farm to school. 

Farm to School of North Carolina Conference

In 2015, the Farm to School Coalition of NC was able to host the first statewide farm to school conference in North Carolina.

The Kid’s Table

This series of dinners and discussions brought together stakeholders interested in learning more about school meals and farm to school. Local chefs were given $2.00 per meal and school meal guidelines with the challenge to create a nutritious, delicious school meal utilizing local ingredients for attendees.

School Garden Workshops

Interactive workshops were held regionally for folks interested in learning more about and/or starting a school garden, invigorating or sustaining an existing school garden, engaging students, and integrating the garden into the curricula. 

Teams of at least 2 school or district representatives, including educators, parents, volunteers, school administrators, and other garden supporters, were encouraged to attend.

Local Food Procurement Workshop

The Farm to School Coalition of NC in partnership with the NC Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services hosted regional workshops across the state for School Nutrition professionals and other partners to learn about processes and regulations for procuring locally grown food for school meals.

Racial Equity in Farm to School Training Series

This series, a partnership of the Farm to School Coalition of NC, Center for Environmental Farming Systems (CEFS) and we are, addresses how we use our collective power to challenge racism in education, food systems, and farm to school.

The Farm to School Coalition of NC Summit

The Farm to School Coalition of NC was excited to host a statewide summit in 2019. The summit brought together practitioners to share knowledge and build capacity in farm to school.
